25 years building the foundations.

Now we’re forming the future.

Scroll to explore our story

The AI era is here and the companies that grasp this moment will define the next generation.

We’re just getting started.

When Hg was founded in 2000, just 6% of the world used the internet. Today, the AI revolution is rewriting the rules of software at break-neck speed.

After 25 years we’re perfectly placed to seize this opportunity, but the journey wasn’t linear.

These are my reflections on the key decisions that got us here and, more importantly, where we’re headed.

Matthew Brockman

Youthful energy & the
long view

If I had to distil what’s got us here, it’s a youthful energy and ambition focused on some of the most exciting technology tailwinds, and a conviction that taking the long view would eventually prevail.

The decision to
specialise

We made a choice that some thought risky at the time. Specialising when others stayed broad. Going inch-wide, mile-deep into mission-critical workflow software. That focus gave us pattern recognition others couldn’t match.

Delivering on our
promise to investors

Our responsibility has always been to deliver for the millions of savers who depend on us. That means balancing discipline with innovation. Staying true to our strategy through every market cycle, while pioneering new approaches to create lasting value.

Building the value
creation engine for software

Early on we saw an opportunity to roll up our sleeves, solve real challenges that create value, and share learnings across the portfolio. In today’s AI era of constant change, this combination of deep expertise and hands-on execution creates a meaningful advantage.

Culture is
the foundation

Culture underpins everything we do. It’s about discipline married with entrepreneurship, a restless desire to constantly improve, and a focus on collective success. This mindset is woven through every decision we make.

Transatlantic
strength

Building our transatlantic presence required patience to ensure we maintained what makes us distinctive. Today it’s a defining strength. Physical presence where innovation happens fastest, connecting ecosystems, talent, and expertise.

The next big platform shift

AI is driving the next big platform shift as it reshapes how software is built and what it’s capable of. We’re approaching AI with startup intensity, combining innovation with decades of experience scaling application software. If we get it right, it will put us on a trajectory to lead in our space for the next 25 years.

Our growth results from a core belief that workplace automation drives enduring value to society.

Further success will require the same ingredients that got us here, plus some new ones. Deep technical expertise. Staying at the frontier of innovation, while remembering that the last mile often determines winners.

It feels as though we’ve spent 25 years growing up for this moment. After our birthday party, it’s straight back to work.

Our History

25 years of building for what’s next. Our long-term thinking, specialisation, and culture has seen bold ideas turn into enduring value.
